Avie's Blessing and the Davis Comedy of Errors

On sunday, we had the opportunity to bless our little Avily. We are so thankful for all of our friends and family that were able to attend. (We missed you Brook and Joanne and your families also. . .) I don't know what we would to without all of you who helped make it a very special day. A few weeks ago, I found some white fabric in my stash and decided to make Avie's blessing dress. I had a good time making the dress, hair bow and appliques for the dress. Having a little girl gives me endless crafting options. I made a cute little pair of booties too, but they didn't quiet get finished in time for the blessing. I don't know that it would have mattered what she was wearing, she looks precious without all of the frills.
I love this picture of Avie grinning at the camera. She has the cutest little smile and likes to grin the most in the morning. Her Dad affectionately calls her "little grinner." One of the Uncles (who shall remain nameless,) said that she looked up at everyone in the circle and grinned at all of them throughout the whole blessing. (But of course he is just guessing because he had his eyes closed through the whole blessing. Right?) She was very good through the blessing. Jeremy gave such a good blessing. Moments like this are always touching.
I would like to say that the rest of the day was just like this picture. Quiet and peaceful. But it wasn't. It wouldn't be a special day at the Davis house without a bit of comedic drama. I'll just hit a few of the highlights:

1. Of course when you bathe your little one, and get ready to put them in an extremely white and stain-able outfit they will poop. Avie just didn't fill her diaper. It was more like a poop explosion. Poop up to her arm pits. Yuck! Thank heavens she was only in a onsie and that she did it on her Dad's watch. Another bath, and a new onsie and we were set to go.

2. While arranging the fridge to fit a wonderfully yummy desert, I dropped a whole bowl of homemade Creamy Tomatillo Dressing. I dropped it on the edge of the refrigerator. It covered the fridge, the wall next to the fridge, completely covered the floor, seeped down into the freezer, and literally covered me from head to toe. Luckily I wasn't dressed for church yet. However, did you know that salad dressing will stain your clothing? I spent 20 minutes trying to clean it all up, but I still have little bits of cilantro all over the floor and refrigerator. Thank you Terry, for making it possible to re-make the dressing. Sweet pork salads just aren't the same without creamy tomatillo dressing. I think this is life's little way of telling me it is time to give the kitchen a really good scrub.

3. Of course after having a wonderfully touching and spiritual moment my boys would find a way to make me laugh at life. About part way through the meeting Parker needed to use the restroom. I had Connor go with him. After 10 minutes, I started worrying that they might be up to something. Jeremy sent Jake out to look for them. He checked the Men's room. They weren't there. He walked around the building. No Davis boys in sight. He decided to check the restroom one more time. Still no boys. Jake did hear what sounded like two boys in the womens' restroom, but by the time he got out into the hallway they were gone. In the meantime, Parker had reverently made his way back to Sacrament Meeting. Connor followed close behind carrying Parker's underwear at arm length (shoulder height, straight out in front of him.) He marched right up to where I was sitting and started waving them in my face. I still don't have a clue why Parker took them off, or why he wouldn't put them back on. I think everyone in the back half of the Chapel must have died laughing. I could have died of embarrassment accept for the fact that my children have done enough crazy stuff that it almost doesn't phase me anymore. It definitely did liven up the meeting though. I think that next week we are going to try our best to keep our underwear on and to ourselves.

All joking aside, it was a wonderful day. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all our family who made it such a great day. We are so blessed to have such good families. I know that we could ask any of them for help and they would be willing to lend a hand. I hope they realize that they can ask the same of us. This year in primary the theme is My Eternal Family. It is moments like this that make me realize what a blessing families are, and how essential they are the Heavenly Father's plan for us. I hope that this is something my kids can learn through our little family. Sometimes it seems impossible amid the wrestling and teasing, but I hope it hits home eventually.
